Been far too long!

  • Nov. 3rd, 2009 at 1:42 AM

Wow I can't believe I have been away from LJ for so long. The only excuse I have is that I found Facebook....

I want to make a brief public thank you to [info]spideylives for her great work on an item I wore for Halloween. I got more compliments on this outfits than I could have ever imagined. I had one little boy afl me if I was a teal pirate "like on TV?". That was just precious!

This Demi corset is first rate! I sent my measurements as requested, she sent me photos of the fabric swatches, and a few days later, I had my corset!

All I can say is WOW!!!

I *just* took these photos!  I just happened to glance out the back office window... thought to myself, why is my dog in the back yard, then remembered, my dog is NOT in the back yard, she's in the next room in her bed!!!

(kinda of hazy, they were taken thru the window screen)

Images are of a RED FOX near a dry creek bed checking out the plants.

Why I Am So Tired

  • Aug. 24th, 2008 at 8:13 AM
bitchy
This is dedicated to all the tired folks on my Flist. (and this is not my original work)

The population of this country is 273 million.
140 million are retired.
That leaves 133 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school,
that leave 48 million to do the work.

Of this, there are 29 million employed by the federal government,
leaving 19 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing the Taliban.
Which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.

Take from the total the 14.8 million people who work for state and city governments.
And that leave 1.4 million to do the work.

At any give time, there are 188,000 people in hospitals,
leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just TWO people to do the work.  You and me.  And there you are sitting at your computer reading LJ (email)

Double Take

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 9:37 AM
prank
I was on my way to 'the office' this morning, when I saw something that made me do a double take.  Theres a local florist who's been here for years and is quite well known.  What I saw this morning caught my eye so much so, that I turned around at the next intersection and went back for photos!

(Photos are of shrubs wearing umbrellas for hats, pompons for arms, big clown sunglasses and a big bow)

It took me a moment to recover and then realized why the shrubs are decorated as they are... Our city is hosting a little league world series of sorts... they are dressed up like cheerleaders! (or parents!)

Its the little things that make you laugh!

There ARE Still Good People Out There.

  • Jul. 14th, 2008 at 3:17 PM

I was sitting at the public library on Saturday.  I had tried to work at home, but the fur-kids were just too much distraction (that was the day I was learning that I Hate HTML crap.  I had been there a while when a lady came around asking if anyone owned a particular car.  It was mine.

I figured my lights were on... again...  Nope, not the lights.  The lady went on to tell me that when she was backing out she had bumped into my rear bumper.  OK.  Any damage? I asked.  No, but she insisted that I go have a look for myself.  The mere fact that she came back into the library to find the car's owner told me there was no damage was good enough for me, but she wanted me to go look for myself.

I went out, had a look.  Nope, no damage.  Besides, with the pretty layer of UV protection that my car is wearing (read dirt) how could anyone even see a scratch?  I thanked her profusely for her actions.  I returned to the cool arctic air of the library with a big smile thinking it was nice to know that good, honest people are still around!

I did not get your name or even remember the car you were driving, but I wanted you to know that I appreciate what you did!

Cool Things

  • Jul. 13th, 2008 at 11:12 AM

I was looking for some things around the 'net today.  Nothing in particular, just stuff.  I did find a few things that I thought many would find neat or useful so here they are!

Radio Station Locator
This lets you search all of their database by location, genre, call letters...  I found a station that I just loved back in Florida... and they are streaming!

Recycling ideas for styrofoam meat trays.
My own idea is this:  I use them under gourd veggies like zukes, squash and pumpkins.  It keeps them out of the dirt and especially for pumpkins, you can grow the perfect specimen for carving by keeping it clean and upright!

Want to know what its like to walk in your pets pawprints?  Check this out!

Taking baby's temperature was an issue for my sister.  Besides, who really wants to deal with a rectal thermometer?  Now theres this!

This would be great for Halloween!  Who needs gnomes?

Oh? You already have gnomes?  Then try this.

And a dose of daily therapy.

Hope everyone is enjoying there weekend.  Stay safe!

A week ago today, I discovered this tiny set of littles.  This morning I discovered they are all just about grown up!

In one week, they went from blind and featherless to feathered and fledged!  Im excited for them and sad for them at the same time.  They now have to venture out into the world and fend for themselves.  But they're soooo little!  I hope they have good little birdy lives!

For my Northern friends, you have your snow, we have our heat, we're even.  For my Southern friends... Im sorry we have to put up with this stuff!

  1. Ice Cream Soup
  2. Your underwear sticks to you like wet plaster.
  3. Mayonnaise becomes a biological weapon.
  4. Hot beer
  5. Television is in reruns.
  6. Salt lines from dried sweat make you look like a living chalk outline of a dead body.
  7. Looking at roofers robs you of every reason to hate your own job.
  8. Going bald seems like a reasonable hairstyle - even for women.
  9. Flying palmetto bugs invade your home when it rains
  10. Fetching the paper in the morning becomes known as "The Death March."
  11. Lobster is NOT an attractive color.
  12. It takes an entire tray of ice to cool one can of Diet Coke.
  13. Anything you leave in your car, including the steering wheel, melts into a fossil fuel.
  14. But it's never enough to fill up your gas tank.
  15. The Naval Observatory says summer ends in September, but it's not really over until November.
  16. You can't afford the airfares.
  17. You can't afford the gasoline prices.
  18. You can't tell the difference.
  19. They sell ice in bags, but what you own once you get to the car is a bag of water.
  20. Not enough self-righteous joggers keel over.
  21. There is not a single good recipe for cooking on the hood of your car.
  22. Too many people wear too few clothes.
  23. Toupees get slippery.
  24. Your power bill equals the Third World debt.
  25. You reupholster your car seats every day in thigh skin.
  26. The inside of your car gets so hot the floor mats sweat all the coffee you ever spilled.
  27. Walking outdoors with your glasses on makes you feel like Mr. Magoo going through the car wash with the top down.
  28. Leave your sunglasses in the car and the frames will sear your temples like steak on a hot grill.
  29. Melting makeup makes you look like a bird caught in an oil spill.
  30. All the cheap vacation spots are even hotter than here.
  31. Your sweat glands open as soon as your eyes do.
  32. There are too many things we can't eat: soup, chili, stew, anything made on a stove.
  33. Some guys think mesh muscle shirts are flattering.
  34. Tanning is no longer PC.
  35. Outdoor dining is not al fresco, its al Sterno.
  36. The dog won't even go outside.

Yard Project, Babies & Other Miscellany

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 6:32 PM
flowercart

Its the Fourth of July.  I have nowhere to go, nothing to do.  I put in a little time in the yard today and then went to the office to finish up some work over there.  Heres a random sampling of the things I saw/did today...

As I am walking into the 'office'  thru the carport, I almost get hit in the head by a small bird.  I go inside and watch out the window to see what all the fuss was about.  The bird returned to the carport and I watched as it went into a hanging basket of ivy.  I waited til it flew out and this is what I saw!  There are 5 babies in there!  The bird is a Carolina Wren.  How cute are they!?!

Recipe Time!

  • Jun. 29th, 2008 at 6:38 PM

Ive been threatening to share this recipe, so here it is... finally!

ZUCCHINI BREAD

Preheat oven to 350.

2 cups flour
3 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup oil
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups fresh zucchini, grated and drained
1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans, but walnuts or others work well)

Sift first 4 ingredients together.
Beat eggs, oil, sugar, vanilla & zucchini together.
Fold dry ingredients into creamed mixture.
Pour into two well greased loaf pans.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
VERY IMPORTANT!  Double wrap in foil as soon as soon as they come out of the oven and the pans.  This keeps the bread moist!

I hope you all enjoy this bread as much as I do!
